Born in Eswatini and now based in Toronto, Agape Mngomezulu has nearly a decade of acting experience under his belt, including credits on fan-fave shows like The CW’s Supernatural and iZombie. He earned a Leo Award nomination for his role in the Hallmark hit, Falling For You, and recurring roles on Paramount+’s SkyMed, and as Bryon Bennett on Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia. Agape is one to watch, so you better get to know him right now in our interview with him!
For our readers who haven’t caught up on season 3 of Ginny & Georgia yet, what can fans expect to see from your character, Bryon?
In Season 3, you definitely see more of a caring side to Bryon. You see him take care of his friends, and his relationship with Bracia deepens as it progresses.
In your own words, how would you describe Bryon? Do you feel that you’re at all similar?
I’d describe Bryon as a cool, calm, honest, and easy-going guy. Also, I’d have to say he’s pretty talented; playing for the football team and also being able to get the lead for the school musical, pretty impressive. We do have some similarities. I wasn’t super athletic growing up, but I definitely did go out of my way to impress my crushes when I was in high school. I’d say we have that in common.
Do you have any memorable or funny moments working on set this season?
There have been so many amazing moments. I’d say one of the best moments each season is working on the musicals. Those are always some of my favorite days. Also, when we were shooting a scene for the last episode, it was in the middle of summer and I remember these wasps wouldn’t leave Antonia (Ginny) alone, and she had to work through that, and she did amazingly but in between takes, she’d just run off to try hiding from them.
Can you share any news on season 4 and if we can expect to see more of Bryon and Bracia’s love story in it?
All I can share is that I definitely know that season 4 is coming! It’s being worked on and we will get it at some point in the future, hahaha. We know nothing of what’s to come, but I hope we do see an expansion of their relationship.
You have some impressive credits under your belt, do you have a favorite role or a film or TV set that you worked on?
It’s tough to pick, but in recent times, I’d say one of the biggest “pinch me” moments was working with Nicholas Cage in Dream Scenario. On top of it being an incredible film and experience, working with a legend was the cherry on top.
Do you have any co-stars throughout your career whom you’ve become close friends with?
100%. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with people that I get along with. I keep in touch with a few castmates from Ginny & Georgia, but there are some people from other productions that I still hang with and see from time to time.
Having lived in and traveled to many different places, how would you say that has helped you grow as both an actor and a person?
Yeah, definitely! I think your work as an actor gets better and deeper the more you grow and learn as a person, and there’s no better learning than experiencing the world and meeting all kinds of people. You can then use that life experience in different characters or scenarios.
I heard you’re a foodie, what are the top 5 must-eat places when visiting Toronto?
Ooooo, this is tough, only 5? Okay, in no particular order, I’d say: Musoshin Ramen is a must, especially in the winter here in Toronto. It’s one of the best bowls of ramen I’ve ever had. Koh Lipe has some incredible Thai dishes. Mother’s Dumplings, specifically the pork buns and obviously, their dumplings are the BEST! Simone’s Caribbean Restaurant. Everyone has their favorite Caribbean spot so it’s up for contention, but for me, I love this one. And White Lilly Diner. I had to include a brunch spot because it’s my favorite meal, but this place is small, relaxed, with incredible food!
We’d love to hear about any films or series you have coming up!
Yeah, I’ve got a film called “Lucky Weekend” coming out soon. It’s produced by Julien Smither, along with “Yellow Jacket” co-stars Kevin Alves and Alexa Barajas. They both also star in it, and Kevin wrote and directed the film.
Anything else you want to share with our readers?
You can follow me on Instagram @off.agape. I’m also going to be working on a play here in Toronto called “Romeo Pimp”. More details on that will be released.
What message do you have for your fans and future fans out there?
Spread love, take care of each other, and always fight for what’s right. We can’t move forward as people if we don’t take care of each other.
